Ch 4 Practice Opportunity!

Several students found that using the Pre-Calc DELTA MATH to practice their skills in Ch 3 was very helpful to their understanding and retention.

Why not give it a try for  all of the Trig in Ch 4?

Additional Resource for Ch 3

I just created a Delta Math Pre-Calculus online class to allow students the opportunity to practice skills that are important to Chapter 3 lessons. Right now there are 11 practice assignments the allow students to work (and learn from mistakes) on Radicals and Exponents.

This is optional, of course! Feel free to use this resource if you know that you were a bit shaky during our 1st Ch 3 Markerboard practice. :)

Click HERE for the delta math link. Our class code is: 259855.

- Do the Pod Review "Quiz" in class and check your answers HERE.
- Click HERE to review the important Vocab on the Test.
- Finish the Chapter 2 Review and check your answers using the Key.

Do the above, and I believe that you'll find success on the Ch 2 Test! :)

Chapter 2 Announcements

Now that we are all capable of successfully using WebAssign, the policy of only 3 extension requests per semester will begin with our Chapter 2 WebAssign HW. Use those extension requests wisely.

In addition, an expectation of Pre-Calc students is that they are capable students, confident in their ability to spend a little extra time (if needed) with Algebra 2 topics that they may have forgotten. These short videos focus on the Algebra 2 topics in each Ch 2 section:

2.2:  *Factoring a Trinomial      *Factoring By Grouping

2.3:  *Synthetic Division            *Long Polynomial Division
*Rational Root Thm         *Finding Zeros Using Synthetic Div
*Finding the Polynomial Given the Zeros

2.4:   *Intro to Imaginary #s       *Imaginary #s w/large exponents
          *Add/Subt/Mult Complex #s
*Dividing Complex #s Using the Conjugate

2.5:  * Completing the Square

1st WebAssign Homework!

To access your 1.2 HW assignment, you'll need to first set-up your Web Assign account. Please follow the instructions found when clicking on the orange WebAssign box to the right. Make sure that you sign up for the correct block. Once you have registered, you will find your 1.2 HW waiting for you. Please note the due date.

The last problem on your 1.2 WebAssign HW will require a graphing calculator. If you don't have one available at home, please use DESMOS
We will spend more time finding the Domain and Range of graphs next class.

Summer Packet 2019

(To access the full blog on your phone, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "view web version".)

Our "summer packet" isn't actually a packet. Instead, I've created a Pre-Req Prep section (found on the left) designed to be used as a summer review. These links will prepare you for the Pre-Req test to be given right after our Ch 1 test, on Sept 6th and 7th. (Please click on 1st Sem Pacing, above, for more pacing info.)

The Pre-Req Test will assess your skill level on Algebra 1 topics that are important for success in Pre-Calculus, yet are not included in the year's curriculum. The test looks identical in form to the practice tests.

If your summer is already filled with travel, activities, or a determination to avoid academics, you will still want to devote some time to your summer review . Although we will be using markerboards to practice several of these problems on the first day, and opportunities will exist to ask pre-req questions during our Ch 1 classes, there will be no direct instruction. Using the Pre-Req Prep links to review is essential for your success on the Pre-Req Test.

I look forward to meeting all of you in the fall!

Reflections

Your answers to the Reflection Prompts need to be typed in google docs and shared with me . Answers need to reflect thought and insight. I will use your ideas and feedback to help make next year's Pre-Calc even better. I will also share some of your written thoughts with next year's students (your name will not be attached to your work).

You are free to start answering these outside of class, but seniors must attend a reflection class to receive credit.
