-----Welcome to 2nd Semester! -----

Happy New Year! Let's start this semester off with our sights set on earning college credit for College Algebra (through Pre-Calc). We will register together in the coming weeks during class. Please see the College Credit Option link above for more info.
This semester, we will continue to build on the concepts that are necessary for success in Calculus. Last semester, we focused on going deeper and wider with Alg 2/Trig topics. Most of our curriculum  this semester will be entirely new.
Also new will be our approach to HW. We'll say goodbye to WebAssign, and hello to bookwork. HW will also be graded differently this semester. While it will sill count for 10% of your grade, each fully completed HW turned in on time will be worth 2 points. Incomplete on time HW or late but fully complete HW will be worth 1 point. Late HW will not be accepted after the test is given. But, here's the twist - earn an A on your test (pod tests excluded), and any missing hw relevant to that test will be excused!
Here's to learning more (about Pre-Calc and ourselves) in this new year!

GRIT and the Ch 2 Test

Thirteen students earned an A on our Ch 2 test. They are the grittiest Pre-Calc students around. Congrats!

What will  your grit look like for Chapter 3?

Registering for College Credit

Registration has been moved to January.

We will come back from winter break and start the process as a class, with info going home to parents as well. This gives us plenty of time to make a decision based on our post high school plans (including our area of study and choice of school).

We will continue to talk about college as this semester progresses, with opportunities to revisit the college credit option several times before January.

1st WebAssign HW

The last problem on your 1.2 WebAssign HW will require a graphing calculator. If you don't have one available at home, please use DESMOS
We will spend more time finding the Domain and Range of graphs next class.

SUMMER PACKET 2018

(To access the full blog on your phone, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "view web version".)

Our "summer packet" isn't actually a packet. Instead, I've created a Pre-Req Prep section (found on the left) designed to be used as a summer review. These links will prepare you for the Pre-Req test to be given right after our Ch 1 test, on Sept 6th and 7th. (Please click on 1st Sem Pacing, above, for more pacing info.)

The Pre-Req Test will assess your skill level on Algebra 1 topics that are important for success in Pre-Calculus, yet are not included in the year's curriculum. The test looks identical in form to the practice tests.

If your summer is already filled with travel, activities, or a determination to avoid academics, you will still want to devote some time to your summer review . Although we will be using markerboards to practice several of these problems on the first day, and opportunities will exist to ask pre-req questions during our Ch 1 classes, there will be no direct instruction. Using the Pre-Req Prep links to review is essential for your success on the Pre-Req Test.

I look forward to meeting all of you in the fall!

Reflection Assignment

Your answers to the Reflection Prompts need to be typed in google docs and shared with me . Answers need to reflect thought and insight. I will use your ideas and feedback to help make next year's Pre-Calc even better. I will also share some of your written thoughts with next year's students (your name will not be attached to your work).

You are free to start answering these outside of class, but seniors must attend a reflection class to receive credit.

Memories...

Wednesday, January 3, 2018

Maybe you could...

Maybe you could...
- set a goal for this semester - one that feels important to you for this class.
- write it down somewhere - in a place where you'll see it often.
- feel a purpose for being here (in our Pre-Calc class).
- challenge yourself - and no longer take the easy route.
- surprise yourself - by what you are capable of.
- be more aware of the present you - and gift the future you by what you do now.
